The Iron Gate II (Djerdap II) navigational lock represents the backbone component of the navigation infrastructure on the Danube River, as the part of the international Rhine-Danube Corridor. The Iron Gate II navigational lock was erected in 1994 and its’ infrastructure components overreached their technical and economic life expectancy of 20 years.
Proper functionality of the Iron Gate II navigational lock is necessary, in order to contribute to the stability, sustainability, safety and predictability of navigation conditions for all cargo and passenger vessels, preventing highly costly increasing of waiting times for vessels. The action will improve connections with neighbouring countries of the EU by strengthen the sustainability and stability of waterway transport conditions through Serbia, connecting the Upper and Middle with Lower Danube riparian countries.
By implementing planned integrated activities, the overall technical life of the Djerdap II navigational lock and its functional performances would be upgraded and assured for the following period of 20 years, contributing to provision of good navigation status.
