The Orient/East-Med Corridor runs between Salzburg in Austria and Thessaloniki in Greece. In Serbia, the Corridor accounts for 872 km of track, i.e. approximately 23% of the entire Serbian railway network.
This project concerns the rehabilitation of a 17 km long single-track section between Stalac and Djunis, on the railway line between Belgrade and Nis. Once rehabilitation work is complete, the entire railway route from the border with Croatia to Belgrade and then Nis will become double-track.
The grant provided by the WBIF (EU) concerns the feasibility study, including preliminary design, for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the 17 km long single-track section between Stalac and Djunis to double-track and speeds of 160km/h, including preliminary design. The design speed and associated designs are in accordance with Serbian Railways development plans. The design speed has triggered an alignment with a total of 7km tunnel sections. The study is now complete.
