Within the European Union's (EU) twinning project “Support to Strengthening Migration Management and Asylum System in Serbia”, representatives of relevant Serbian authorities and EU Member States have commenced activities on further harmonisation of national legislation with the EU legislation concerning work permits.
Within the first component of the project, which aims at assessing and further adjusting the current national legislation of the Republic of Serbia to the directly applicable EU legislation, three missions are planned. Due to Covid-19 related measures and recommendations, two missions were realised online in the period of 10–13 November 2020 and 19-22 January 2021.
Short term experts from the EU Member States together with the experts from the relevant authorities of the Republic of Serbia have started to develop a draft document, assessing both legislation and implementation, for further harmonisation with EU Acquis in the area of work permits. During these missions, the working group drafted a certain number of provisions that harmonize the Serbian laws with EU-Directive 2011/98/EU (1) (the single permit directive) and Council Regulation 1030/2002 (2) laying down a uniform format for the residence permit. The working group will continue the activities in March 2021.

2 Council Regulation (EC) No 1030/2002 of 13 June 2002 laying down a uniform format for residence permits for third-country nationals.
