Support to establishment of carcass classification system in line with EU Common Agricultural Policy

This project is a continuation of the Twinning light project "Identification of necessary steps in the process of establishing a carcass classification system by EU requirements", which gave the recommendations for the next steps in the process of establishing an EU compatible carcass classification system which included the preparation of the TW project which will cover the tasks related to the necessary training, calibration of the equipment, implementation of the national data system and identification of the slaughterhouses involved in the system.

The overall objective of the project is to direct meat producers towards market and consumer demands, and to improve meat production quality and meat market transparency’.

Specific objective of this project is to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management (MAFWM) to establish a system of common organization of agricultural markets in the field of carcass classification in full compliance with EU regulations. In other words, it aims to provide support to the MAFWM regarding the following areas:

  • Increase the capacity of the MAFWM staff to solve the difficulties that arise in the implementation of the system
  • Convey the importance that the classification system has for the meat sector as a whole
  • Develop internal procedures, protocols, manuals, inspection records and other documents that facilitate the application of the system
  • Carry out an adequate calibration of the equipment necessary for the determination of lean meat content.
  • Guarantee an adequate continuous supervision of the system, which is capable of detecting irregularities and apply the necessary corrective measures
  • Prepare useful and simple informative material for all the agents involved in the system
