The EU4Green project supports the Western Balkans – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia – in the green transition. The primary objective of the EU4Green is to make economies greener, more sufficient and competent, and to reinforce the Western Balkans in protecting the environment.

Five pillars of EU4Green in the greening of Western Balkans are:

·         Decarbonisation: Climate, Energy, Mobility

·         Depollution: Air, Water & Soil

·         Biodiversity: Protection & Restoration of Ecosystems

·         Circular Economy

·         Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production

The EU4Green’s support to the Western Balkans is also a part of the EU accession of the region. Since the implementation of the Green Agenda is a priority for the European Union, support in the green transition will facilitate Western Balkans’ joining the Union.

The Western Balkans economies adopted the European Green Agenda by signing Sofia Declaration in November 2020. From then on, the Green Agenda became prior guidelines for the green transition in the region of Western Balkans.

During the EU4Green project, the Western Balkans economies will also improve mutual cooperation, bringing many economic and environmental benefits to more than 20 million people in the region.

The European Union finances the EU4Green project with 10 million euros and Austrian Development Cooperation with 1 million euros respectively and implemented by the Environment Austria Agency in cooperation with Western Balkans governments and institutions.
