Summary
The project focuses on Serbia's obligation to effectively investigate, prosecute and try those responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law), crimes against humanity and genocide – commonly known as ‘war crimes’.
The EU continues to support a more sustainable domestic monitoring mechanism through this project. It will keep on monitoring and analysing war crimes trials in Serbia, supporting the judiciary to improve its track record and building capacities of Serbian civil society organisations to take over and continue war crimes trial monitoring.
It will also establish an education and training system in international criminal law and international humanitarian law for judges, prosecutors and other state bodies. A special focus will be on promoting an improved understanding of the principle of accountability for war crimes amongst young people and future decision-makers.
