The second webinar on personal data protection was held on 22 December, 2020 intended for responsible persons in whistleblowing process. The representatives of state institutions were informed with the key stages in whistleblowing and what each of them brings from the aspect of personal data protection.
The role of the authorized person in the process of whistleblowing, the necessary competencies as well as the responsibilities of this person was presented at the introductory part of the webinar. The course of submitting information in accordance with the Law on the Protection of Whistleblowers and the Law on the Protection of Personal Data was also presented in detail, as well as the challenges in the procedure of whistleblowing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was estimated that working from home can be an obstacle for whistleblowers, but also for suspects, who can feel especially vulnerable if their usual support system is disrupted, if communication with an authorized person is difficult.
Special attention at the webinar was paid to the procedure of verification of information, actions that need to be performed in order to have a complete insight into the factual situation, as well as storage of information (to whom are available, where are stored, storage deadlines). Through examples from domestic and international practice, the application of legal provisions and principles was considered.
The lecturer at the webinar was Milica Andrić, an expert on the project "Prevention and fight against corruption".
The project will continue with activities until the end of February 2021.
