Strengthening border institutions’ capacities – key to greater security and faster cross-border flow

Enhancing the capacities of institutions within the Integrated Border Management (IBM) system is crucial for improving security, efficiency, and international cooperation. Specialized training programs, aligned with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) standards, enable more effective and standardized border control, reduce administrative barriers, and increase resilience to security challenges. These activities contribute to compliance with European standards and enhance institutional readiness to address modern migration and security challenges.

To help border services respond more effectively to the complexities of today's migration and security landscape, a workshop was held in Belgrade on March 20, 2025, for representatives of the Border Police Directorate. During the workshop, the Training Program for Managers in the Integrated Border Management System was presented. Participants were introduced to the process of developing training materials and content through thematic modules, in line with the adopted training program.

As part of the "EU Support for Effective Border Management" project, funded by the European Union, the prepared training materials are divided into five key thematic areas: IBM System in the EU, State Border Control, Investigation of Cross-Border Crime, Risk Analysis and Enhancing National and International Cooperation

By implementing this structured training program and improving inter-institutional cooperation, the Integrated Border Management system becomes more resilient and efficient. Strengthening the capacities of employees within the IBM system is expected to contribute to even better border control in the Republic of Serbia and enhanced security in line with European standards.
