The panel discussion on the implementation of the new Law on the Protection of Personal Data held in Vršac gave additional impulse towards more effective implementation of this law in the Republic of Serbia. With the presence of Commissioner Milan Marinović, Deputy Commissioner Sanja Unković and representatives of the Commissioner's Service, the event brought together data handlers, representatives of civil society and the media.
During the panel, current issues and challenges in the implementation of the new law were discussed, as well as opportunities for its improvement. Commissioner Marinović highlighted the current situation in the area of personal data protection, while Deputy Commissioner Unković spoke about the role and competences of the institution of the Commissioner.
The participation of representatives of the Commissioner's Office from different sectors enabled a comprehensive overview of the situation and the exchange of experiences and ideas. The panel discussions, which are being organized in 15 selected local governments, aim to raise public awareness and inform citizens about the importance of personal data protection.
The organization of the panel is supported by the project "Strengthening Rule of Law in the Republic of Serbia", jointly funded by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the implementation of the activity is led by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).
