As part of the project "EU4SORS - Development of a modern statistical system", the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SOS) organized the third workshop in Belgrade under the title "Statistics for better decisions: potential for municipalities, cities and the economy".
The aim of the EU4SORS project is to establish a Decision Support System and a Statistical Population Register, which will contribute to greater efficiency, coherence and adaptability of the national statistical system.
The workshop participants had the opportunity to learn about the new role of statistics as an analytical service, which will not only provide data and indicators for the local level, but also offer digital tools for their analysis.
"This project, which we are implementing with the financial assistance of the European Union, testifies the strength of partnership. By working together, we are improving the collection and use of data at the local level, thereby directly contributing to the principles of decentralization and inclusive governance. We believe that the results of the project will contribute to a better quality of life for citizens throughout Serbia," said Branko Josipović, Acting Director of SORS.
Project Manager Mira Nikić emphasized that the Local Decision Support System brings better data exchange between local self-governments and SORS, the development of new indicators, and integration with administrative sources: "This initiative clearly shows how the partnership with the EU leads to modernization and more efficient governance."
The workshop brought together representatives of local self-governments and regional chambers of commerce that will be involved in further implementation of the system.
The workshop program included a series of presentations and discussions on the results of pilot survey in the economy, social development and environmental protection, as well as on methodological challenges and the application of new technologies in statistics. The presentation of the "Analytics" solution, the future platform of the decision-making system, attracted particular attention.
As the end result of the project, a modern and integrated statistical system will be established at the service of institutions, businesses and citizens.
