The Community Centre in Rekovac, 70 years since its opening, has gained a new look thanks to support of the European Union (EU) support extended through the EU PRO development programme. With the EU funds amounting to 72,000 Euros and the participation of the local government of 16,000 Euros, the reconstruction included the roof replacement, installation of new carpentry and floor in the hall, renovation of the sanitary block, and procurement of new furniture and equipment for the exhibition space.
"The Community Centre now has adequate conditions for organising various events to promote the cultural and economic potentials of the municipality," said Aleksandar Đorđević, Mayor of the Municipality of Rekovac, and added that all activities would be organised in accordance with epidemiological measures and recommendations of the competent institutions.
"The institution, which was in a very bad condition, almost in ruins, today has a completely new look and will host all events in Rekovac and the entire Levač area," said Katarina Avramov, director of the Community Centre that was annexed to the Cultural Centre in 2016 by the decision of the Rekovac Municipal Assembly.
With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia of 8.5 million Dinars that the municipality of Rekovac received for the second phase of reconstruction, the Community Centre will also receive an equipped cinema hall.
During the project, the activities related to the good governance principles were carried out in order to regulate the management and use of facilities, while special focus was on non-discrimination meaning that people with disabilities and children with special needs will be given priority in usage of the Centre premises free of charge. These activities are implemented in partnership with the Swiss PRO programme supported by the Government of Switzerland.
