On May 20, 2021, the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, Mrs Oana-Cristina Popa, made her first official visit to the municipalities of Pljevlja and Žabljak. During the visit, the Ambassador said that the European Union will continue to support the north of Montenegro in its efforts to transform into a modern, greener and more prosperous region. During the visit, Ambassador Popa met with the leadership of local governments and talked with the beneficiaries of projects funded by the European Union in the two municipalities. "It is a pleasure to see this region receive support from the EU in various important areas. The EU is currently investing over 2.5 million euros in 11 cross-border cooperation projects in which beneficiaries from these two municipalities are participating, "the Ambassador said. These projects support local communities in a wide range of areas, including environmental protection, climate change, disaster response, tourism, agriculture, employment and health. The Ambassador visited the Primary School "Salko Aljković" in Pljevlja, where the EU financed the installation of solar panels within the project "We can" through the Cross-border Cooperation Program Serbia-Montenegro 2014-2020.
