Education for the use of GIS within the new SCADA system

The training for the use of the improved geographic information system (GIS) within the new SCADA system for the Distribution system operator (DSO) - Distribucijagas Srbija was held in Vrnjačka Banja from 14 to 16 May 2024.

The training gathered 17 participants, representatives of PE Srbijagas Novi Sad.
Training participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the key components of GIS in general and QGIS as a modern tool to further use in daily work with spatial data that they currently do manually or with the help of various software solutions. In other words, the participants, considering the different levels of knowledge in geodesy and cartography as well as GIS itself, received the necessary theoretical foundations for its effective use, and then practical training for the installation and generic use of GIS through the application of examples for spatial data processing that is already implemented in PE Srbijagas.

As an added value, the necessary inputs were collected during the training to further define the details of business processes relevant to spatial data, based on which DSO Distribucijagas Serbia will be able to use the GIS component as a standard tool for spatial data processing.
This is the first in a series of educational activities that are implemented on the project "SCADA platform for DSO" financed by the European Union, and implemented by the Institut Mihajlo Pupin - Automatika in a consortium with the company Datatek doo from Belgrade.

The Contracting Authority is the Ministry of Finance - Department for Contracting and Financing of EU Funded Programmes (CFCU) while the Ministry of Mining and Energy is the project’s Final Beneficiary.
