In Vrnjačka Banja, from 8 to 12 September 2025, within the framework of the project “EU4SORS – Development of a Modern Statistical System”, a workshop titled “Development of Decision-making System at National Level” was held.
The workshop was opened by the Acting Director of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, Branko Josipović, who emphasized that the implementation of the planned project activities will make it possible to transform complex statistical data into clear, useful, and timely information for decision-makers at all levels.
“Reliable data are the foundation of a modern State and the strongest support for every decision-makers. Serbia is entering a new era of statistics where ministries and government bodies have access to integrated sources of data, indicators and modern analytical tools – all in one place. This system brings new possibilities to the government administration: a potential to create decisions based on facts, timely and in accordance with the highest European standards.
International cooperation is particularly significant as the system is developed within the scope of common European initiatives and is aligned with the best practices of EU member countries. The exchange of experiences and knowledge with partner statistical institutions guarantees that, through this Project, Serbia will attain and follow in many areas statistical trends already implemented at EU level.
All interested parties – from the Government, ministries and local self-management authorities via the National Employment Service, investors and employers to the academic community, media and citizens – will have access to specifically defined indicators, the interactive web portal with maps and visualisations, as well as to training and technical support adapted to their needs. Comprehensive and structural data will be unified in one place, ready for simple use and independent analysis. This way the government administration will be provided for the first time with a tool that enables making strategic decisions based on reliable, available and timely information, with a strong support and connection with the European statistical community”, said Josipović.
Mister Richard Maša, First Counsellor of the EU Delegation to Serbia has said that the European Union supports continuously the development of the statistical system of Serbia:
“The European Union has been supporting for years the development of the statistical system of Serbia. Our cooperation with the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia is the example of a true partnership built on trust and joint objectives. The Office follows consistently Eurostat recommendations, implements modern methods, invest in its people and improves constantly the quality of work. We are proud of the results we have achieved together so far, particularly of the fact that we are soon starting two new projects that will strengthen even more the system of national accounts and ensure a more precise insight in the situation and trends of our economy and society.”
The project “EU4SORS – Development of a Modern Statistical System” aims to develop a decision support system at different levels, with a special focus on workforce information analytics and establishing a statistical population register.
Data from this system will enable:
- Government institutions to create policies based on timely and accurate data,
- Employers to identify labour market requirements,
- Educational institutions to adapt the educational programmes to real labour requirements,
- Citizens to make data-informed decisions about their career, education and employment.
The workshop has gathered the representatives of all partner institutions involved in the subcomponent “Decision-making Support System at National Level“ (DMSS NL) from the government administration to the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Chamber of Commerce of Vojvodina and academic community.
