Developing Standard Operating Procedures to Establish an Effective Referral Mechanism for Vulnerable Groups

On November 25, 2024, in Belgrade, eight representatives from the Border Police Directorate participated in a workshop focused on drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at creating an efficient referral mechanism for vulnerable groups.

The workshop provided insights into existing legal frameworks related to the referral of vulnerable individuals and shared best practices for working with these groups. While Serbia is among the first countries in the region to begin developing a National Referral Mechanism, the SOPs under preparation will further assist border police officers in identifying individuals at heightened risk of exploitation and human trafficking. Special emphasis is placed on protecting women, unaccompanied children, and children separated from their parents or guardians, ensuring a more systematic and humane approach to addressing these risks.

The workshop was organized as part of the "EU Support for Efficient Border Management" project, funded by the European Union.
