To educate future agricultural professionals about climate change, an elective course titled "Climate Change in Agriculture" has been designed and accredited for secondary agricultural schools as part of the project "Strengthening Disaster Resilience in Agriculture". This course has been officially available since September 2023 and is currently included in the curriculum of eight agricultural schools across Serbia.
To provide a well-structured guide through the material — facilitating more efficient learning, quicker understanding of key concepts, and practical application of knowledge — the manual "Climate Change in Agriculture" has been written.
The manual is intended for students enrolled in the elective course and for anyone interested in learning more about the impact of climate change on agricultural production. Its goal is to help readers recognize risks associated with climate change and acquire knowledge and skills to implement adaptation measures in crop and livestock production. Climate change is increasingly causing extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, storms, and hail, as well as the spread of crop and animal diseases, all of which negatively impact food production and the economic stability of farmers.
The manual is available at this link.
Given that Serbia is located in a region where climate change is progressing faster than the global average, strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector is essential. The manual explains fundamental concepts and causes of climate change, provides insight into climate-smart practices, and offers examples of solutions applicable in a local context.
The elective course "Climate Change in Agriculture" and the accompanying manual are the results of the project "", funded by the European Union and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia. The handbook was published in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia and the
