Another EUR 4,9 million from the EU for medical equipment
The Minister for European Integrations Jadranka Joksimović, the head of the European Delegation in Serbia, ambassador Sem Fabrizi and the head of the UNOPS office, Michela Telatin have signed an agreement on the donation worth EUR 4,9 million, for aiding Serbia in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
This donation will enable the purchase of respirators, tests and protective laboratory equipment. The partner in the implementation is the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The donation is a part of the financial support worth EUR 93 million, which the European Union is giving to Serbia for short-term and mid-term measures for suppressing the consequences of COVID-19.
Europe is fighting a very difficult battle. Thousands of people are infected, and thousands die every day. We have to stick together in these hard moments and I am happy that the solidarity of the European Union answered promptly to Serbia`s call for help. We have allocated EUR 15 million for current needs. We have already covered all the transport costs of cargo planes which have arrived in Serbia with medical equipment. Nowadays we are helping Serbia to buy additional necessary medical equipment by this donation agreement worth EUR 4.9 million. The support from the EU will continue on, both for emergency and for short-term and mid-term measures, in the total amount of EUR 93 million, and in line with Serbia’s needs
as said by ambassador Fabrizi.
This procurement of medical equipment – respirators, laboratory equipment and tests, monitors for intensive care, non-contact thermometers and protective equipment, as well as containers necessary for triage, is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
